With the Gap, Abercrombie
and Fitch and other chain stores dominating Paris’ Champs-Elysées it’s easy to
forget that you are in one of the world’s style capitals. However, a few years
ago, I was fortunate enough to get a stylish history lesson as I strolled along
this famous boulevard.

In commemoration of its 90th anniversary,
French Vogue presented some of its classic covers in a retrospective on
the Avenue
des Champs-Elysées. Poster-sized replicas
of more than 70 covers were on display, spanning the years 1920-2009 and
included a work by Dali featuring the face of Marilyn Monroe, classic vintage
fashions, and photos of style icons Audrey Hepburn, Catherine Denevue and
Twiggy.

The open-air exhibition
only lasted a month, and I had no idea it was going on; I just happened upon it
while walking along the Champs-Elysées on a lovely autumn day.

Another
thing I delighted in while in the City of Lights.
