Paris is a perennial favorite and consistently ranked one of the world’s most popular travel destinations. It’s no secret that I’ve got a thing for the City of Light, and like to go whenever I can. I guess that’s why people always ask me for hotel recommendations. Whether you’re traveling as a couple, with kids, with friends or on your own. No matter if you’re looking for luxury, boutique, or hip and trendy. From St. Germain to Republique, here are my tested and approved picks for great Paris accommodations.
Le 123 Elysées
8th arrondissement
This boutique hotel is in an upscale area just a short walk from the Champs-Elysées. Also in close proximity to Le 123 Elysées are a number of fine dining options, and Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, a street famous for its fashion houses.
The hotel’s rooms are comfortably sized, and the amenities include free Wi-Fi, an extensive breakfast buffet and a bar, which offers free snacks and soft drinks in the afternoon.
Hotel des Academies et des Arts
6th arrondissement
The Hotel des Academies et des Arts is a boutique hotel in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés quartier, considered by many to be the quintessential Parisian neighborhood. In keeping with the artistic and literary atmosphere of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the hotel’s theme is dedicated to the creative arts. The elegantly decorated rooms are a bit smallish, but the hotel’s other wonderful amenities such as the cozy sitting area/lobby where guests are offered a Pierre Hermé macaroon in the afternoon, and the bar, makes this easy to overlook.
Hôtel des Academies et des Arts also has a wellness area that offers massages and beauty treatments, and the staff can arrange visits of nearby art studios.
Hotel Bosquet
7th arrondissement
This budget hotel (by Paris standards) is basic and bare-bones. However, there is nothing basic about its location: Hotel Bosquet is just a couple of blocks from the Eiffel Tower and Champs de Mars, and on Rue Cler, an area famous for its numerous shops and charming candle-lit bistros. Be sure to ask for a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower.
Hotel Cler
7th arrondissement
Hotel Cler is, in a word, darling! The rooms in the recently renovated hotel are small, which is more the rule than the exception in Paris, but you get a stylish hotel in a great location within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower, near great cafes, outdoor markets, and bustling local activity.
I would skip the hotel breakfast, and instead go to one of the many boulangeries in the area or, if it’s the weekend, try Marlon. And as with Hotel Bosquet above, which is also on Rue Cler, request a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower.
Hotel Les Dames du Panthéon
5th arrondissement
The décor of this quirky hotel located in the Latin Quarter and housed in an 18th-century building celebrates famous French dames who, with the exception of Marie Curie, were excluded from the Panthéon, a monument dedicated to France’s great men. Fun details such as vintage wedding photos in the corridor, rotary phones, and other period décor add to the hotel’s charm.
Each floor is dedicated to a famous French woman, including Edith Pilaf, Juliette Gréco, and Marguerite Duras, and some of the rooms offer views of the Panthéon or Sacré Coeur.
Hotel Fabric
11th arrondissement
This hip and trendy hotel in the hip and trendy Oberkampf district is housed in a former textile factory. The spacious rooms are bright and colorful with funky design elements. Hotel Fabric serves breakfast in the morning and coffee, tea and snacks are available throughout the day.
The hotel has a spa and fitness room and its common space with its comfy chairs and sofas, and communal dining tables are open and inviting. The neighborhood has a plethora of cafes and restaurants and is in close proximity to a couple of metro stations.
Hôtel Montalembert
7th arrondissement
A 5-star boutique hotel, Hotel Môntalembert is the epitome of class. Set in an elegant Haussmannian building in St.-Germain-des-Prés, the stylish rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV, modern bathrooms and original artwork on the walls. Rooms on the top floor have a view of the Eiffel Tower in the distance. Hotel Môntalembert is within a 15-minute walk of a number of Paris attractions, including the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Luxembourg Gardens and Le Bon Marché department store. The hotel has a bar and a restaurant, which serves gourmet meals, and is next door to the two Michelin-starred restaurants, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon.
Hotel Pulitzer Paris
9th arrondissement
This chic 44-room design hotel can be found in the Opéra neighborhood. The smartly decorated rooms are petit yet comfortable, with amenities such as a free wifi, a flat-screen tv, and complimentary coffee, tea, and water.
The spacious and sophisticated lounge/lobby offers a daily happy hour with free wine and is perfect for socializing or winding down after a day of sightseeing.
While Hotel Pulitzer Paris serves breakfast, the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant. However, there is no shortage of restaurants, cafes, and bars in the neighborhood. Landmarks such as the Opéra, Moulin Rouge and Sacré-Coeur are a 15-20 minute walk away, and there are several metro stops in the neighborhood.
Renaissance Trocadero
16th arrondissement
This pick is located in a quiet, elegant neighborhood within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, and Champs-Élysées. There are also two Metro stops nearby, so Paris’ many other attractions are easily accessible as well.
The Renaissance Trocadero is part of the Marriott International, so you can receive or use membership points. You can read my full review here:
St. James Paris Relais Château
16th arrondissement
Tucked away in a residential area is the elegant St. James Paris, the only chateau-hotel in Paris. The refined Napoleon III style façade is juxtaposed by the flamboyant décor of the interior, including the sweeping, black and white grand staircase. Hot-air balloons are a recurring theme throughout the hotel in recognition of St. James Paris being on the site of the city’s first aerodrome where hot-air balloons once gathered and launched.
The spacious rooms are individually styled and decorated with witty details such as leopard print, tartan, jungle or chinoiserie fabric, beds that might be Baroque or Gothic, and trompe l’oeil ‘parquet’ carpets, bowler-hat lights and cases of butterflies. Other amenities include a Michelin-starred restaurant, a Guerlain spa, fitness room, and library/bar.
Hotel Thérèse
1st arrondissement
The best way to describe Hotel Thérèse is location, location, location. The luxury boutique hotel is set in a townhouse in the 1st arrondissement, once considered the heart of Paris as it was the seat of royalty. The well-appointed rooms are decorated in a contemporary style, and vary in size, and there is a stylish salon on the ground floor where guests can lounge and enjoy a drink.
The hotel is in close proximity to shopping and sightseeing, including the Louvre, which is just a short walk away, and lots of great cafes and restaurants.
