Maastricht, in the south of the Netherlands, is decorated and illuminated in celebration of the Christmas season. A highway of lit streets takes you through Magical Maastricht, connecting the city’s squares, leading from one Christmas market to the next, one event to another; including ice rinks, cultural programs and world class shopping and gastronomy.

Magical Maastricht is set around Vrijthof, arguably one of the Netherlands’ most beautiful squares. Here you will find the city’s largest market, an outdoor ice rink and a number of heated Christmas café terraces. Other markets include Kesselkade, which sits on the bank of the river Meuse and features a carousel, ferris wheel and slide which will delight the child in anyone, and one in front of the 17th-century city hall on Markt square. In the shadow of the Basilica of Our Lady (Onze Lieve Vrouwebasiliek) an intimate, gezellig market can be found, as well as a live nativity scene.

Magical Maastricht is more than just Christmas markets; it also offers a sophisticated program of cultural events such as concerts, theater productions and art exhibitions that take place in the city’s streets, squares and museums.

Magical Maastrict casts its spell through the end of December. Visit the website for more information.
