A big purple hand flipping the bird floats in the River Vltava the Prague. I posted a picture on Instagram sarcastically caption “tell me how you really feel”, because a 30-foot tall hand making an obscene gesture clearly indicates somebody or ain’t happy.
That somebody is David Cerny. The Czech artist is sending a message to President Milos Zeman who supports a plan by the leftist Social Democrats that would indirectly put the Communist Party – responsible for more than 40 years of repression – into power for the first time since the 1989 anti-Communist Velvet Revolution.
The hand, which surfaced a few days before the early general election and is located near Charles Bridge is visible from the president’s office in Prague Castle.
I wonder what he thought when he looked out of the window and saw that “greeting”.
