In a bit of girls gone wild, but much closer to home, I had a belated birthday celebration with some of my girlfriends the other night.

It was almost three weeks belated, in fact, since I was sick on my actual birthday, and because we’ve all been busy getting settled back in after the summer vacation.

The celebration with friends from the UK, Australia and another all-American girl was a reflection of my international life, as was the gift they presented me with.  A beautiful hand painted Tunisian bowl was filled with wonderful gifts from around the world, including a sachet with lavender from Provence, Stephen Clarke’s Paris Revealed, a sampler of delicious sweet and savory confitures from Mama Djambo, a Nigerian woman living in Holland who makes the products in her kitchen, a bottle of sparkling wine from Portugal, – rosé, of course.

It was a wonderful, heart-felt gift from a group of ladies who obviously know me pretty well. I mean, look at the name of the sparkling wine they chose for me.

Happy belated anniversary-of-my-25th-birthday to me.
